As an Enfield resident, I am 100 percent in favor of the proposed Enfield wind farm.
While driving through Illinois and Indiana recently, I passed several breathtaking wind farms. They were not eyesores to the landscape and they were not noisy. As long as the technology and placement of the turbines are designed to minimize the effect on birds, I don’t understand the opposition to wind farms.
We must choose a responsible, sustainable energy source and, yes, it will be in someone’s backyard. However, consider the alternatives: longwall mining and fracking. In Illinois, the practice of longwall mining is ruining farms, homes, wells, habitats, roads and lives.
Next time you turn on a light switch, think of the devastating environmental effects of our current energy source
